Christmas Regrets

30 Dec

I did it again. Every year at the start of the Christmas season I think “this year I will focus on Jesus, the reason for the season.” And every year I fail. Oh we go to church pageants and hit or miss do devotionals. I wear shirts saying Jesus is the reason for the Season etc. But when I look back over the last month at all the things I wanted to do… but didn’t, all the times I should have brought Him into the conversation…but didn’t, I have to regret the missed opportunities.

Every year I think that this year I’m going to read the Christmas story before we open gifts. I’m going to remind my kids of why we give gifts, that Jesus was the greatest gift of all. I really thought this year, with Tim out of a job and a lesser focus on material things, that it would be easy to remember…Nope. Busyness and travel and broken appliances, car repairs…the worries and cares of this life still choke Jesus out.

A friends copy of a post on Facebook brought tears to my eyes and a realization that I’m still missing the most important part of Christmas. It’s Jesus Birthday, not mine. So I’m collecting ideas for next year, for life really. Everyday we should celebrate His birth. Our greatest gift.
